The Helmet of Salvation

This morning I read a study on the Helmet of Salvation that I thought was extremely insightful. I know that I will never think of the Helmet the same way again! Here a few of the main points:

- The Helmet of Salvation is to protect our minds, guard our thoughts, and keep us from believing false doctrines or any lies of the devil.

- Only those who are saved have the protection from wrong thinking that is needed in order to be victorious in battle. Unbelievers have many thought-strongholds, lies they believe from the enemy of their souls, that they are unable to tear down, having no "divine power" to do so.

- See Isaiah 59:14-17 ... It is God alone Who accomplished our salvation in Jesus Christ, it is God Who gives us the helmet of salvation. He wore it when He came to earth to do battle with the evil one, and now, having been victorious over Satan through His death on the cross, He gives us the helmet to wear in order to protect us from false doctrine, dark thoughts, intense temptations, and hopeless despair.

- God works salvation by Himself, He provides the helmet of our salvation to us. And though we are instructed to "work out our own salvation" we are reminded that it is God Who works in us, making us willing and able to do of His good pleasure (Philippians 2:12-13)

- "The idea is, that a well-founded hope of salvation will preserve us in the day of spiritual conflict, and will guard us from the blows which an enemy would strike. The helmet defended the head, a vital part; and so the hope of salvation will defend the soul, and keep it from the blows of the enemy. A soldier would not fight well without a hope of victory. A Christian could not contend with his foes, without the hope of final salvation; but, sustained by this, what has he to dread?" - Albert Barnes

"Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise"! (James 5:13b)
